DescriptionFrom the Trade Bead Market Ledger:
Skunk, or “eye,” beads were manufactured in Europe as early as the 1730’s and quickly gained popularity across the Great Lakes, Upper Missouri, and Northern Plains. Their dotted “eye” motif gave them an aesthetic premium over plain stock. These beads appear in personal adornment, gift exchanges, and fur-trade transactions as mid-range decorative currency.
