DescriptionDepicts a hunting dog retrieving deceased fowl. The artist, Flora Winegar Brigham, likely found the subject matter for the painting in a late nineteenth century art circular, as hunting genre scenes were popular at the time. Flora Winegar Brigham attended the Hamilton Female Seminary. She was the wife of Professor Albert Perry Brigham, a renowned geographer and geologist with ties to Colgate University, Harvard, Cornell University, the University of Wisconsin, Oxford University, the University of London, and the Library of Congress. She traveled Europe extensively throughout the course of her husband's career. Flora was a direct descendent of an early Dutch family in the Mohawk Valley and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the New York State Historical Association.
