DescriptionFrom the portfolio forward: "Joyce McDaniel, born in Oklahoma City, received her MA in Art History from Wellesley College and MFA from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts where she now teaches. Recent exhibitions include Baston (In Dialogue) Now at Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art in 1994, and Why Artists' Books? at the Houghton Library, Harvard University, 1993. Her work is in the collections of the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, and the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA. McDaniel's Sculptors' Edition piece continues her work with dressmaker pattern paper. Here she has focused on the pattern's translucent quality and ability to express the visual layering of personal and metaphorical connections. Black lines, arrows, directions, her own text, and echoes of an absent steel mesh are revealed through a fragile but richly textured surface."
