DescriptionComposition a captioned "We regard the Reconstruction Acts (so called) of Congress as usurpations, and unconstitutional, revolutionary, and void" from the "Democratic Platform" typeset beneath title in black ink. Composition b captioned "Lady *******. 'Out damned spot! Out, I say!...... Here's the smell of the blood still: all the perfumes of Democ- / racy will not sweeten this little hand. Oh! oh! oh!'" typeset beneath title in black ink. Composition b occupies the top left of the sheet, spanning two-thirds the width and a half the height. The sheet is divided into four columns of advertisements. Page 561 features the banner headline for "Volume XII: No. 610", typeset in black ink, along with an illustration titled "The pet calf" by R. Ansdell. Page 564 is divided into three rows of illustrations titled "Collecting the Customs: Operations of the Customs Inspectors and Agents at New York" sketched by T. R. Davis. The first row features two images captioned "Barge Office at Whitehall Landing, New York" and "Custom Officers Boarding a Steamer". The second row features one illustration captioned "Custom Officers Examining Baggage at the Dock". The third row features two images captioned "Passengers paying duties" and "Searching a Suspected Smuggler". Page 565 is comprised of text, titled "The Lawyer's Story", with an accompanying illustration, captioned "Walter, you are the only friend I have on earth" by "V. F. V.". This section spans two-thirds the of the sheet's width. Beneath the story is an illustration titled "Camp of the Papal Zouaves: the Pope Pronouncing his Benediction". There is an illustration by Tho. North on page 567 captioned "Old Lady. 'Bless my stars, what small eyes they do put in needles now to what they / used to!". Illustration occupies the bottom right of the sheet, spanning half the width and a third of the height. The sheet is divided into four columns that describe the illustrations "Collecting the Customs" and "The Papal Zouaves" and house the humors of the day.
