The Eagle Squares is one of 100 clubs in the Northern California Square Dancing Association. We called our group Eagle Squares because we used to dance in the Eagles Hall. My wife and I started when some neighbors talked us into taking a beginning square dance class. We found dancing to be good clean fun, something we could do together with little expense involved. I've taught several of the Red Cross Child Education courses. They are open to the general public and they are free. It takes courage for people to say I don't know how to take care of a new born infant. In six lessons, I teach them about pregnancy, labor, delivery, nutrition of the mother and newborn, the first week of life, and growth and development in the first year. The Forty-Fifth Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the descendants of the Roy and Nellie Newfarmer family was the highlight of our year. When there are seventy people for dinner you have to be organized. We have carving an serving committees, games and a family quilt everyone sews on. A silent auction pays for the three turkeys. More families should be proud of their heritage. As long as I can work here I will. It's better than housework. Cauliflower packing is hard work but I don't even think about it. My hands go through the motions, my mind's somewhere else. The season lasts six months, then I pack tomatoes and collect unemployment for the rest of the year., from the series "Working"

Mardi Gras is one of the biggest money making events the Pleasanton Juniors stage each year. We have king and queen candidates who hold money making events (dances, fashion shows, family pizza night, etc.) The candidate who raises the most money wins. Last year we raised $12,800.00 for the senior citizens transportation system and $1000.00 for youth counseling programs. The final event is the Mardi Gras Ball, over 500 people attended to drink, eat, dance and celebrate the coronation. Pleasanton, California, from the series "Our Kind of People"

The name derives from the original plan to "rotate" the location of each meeting. Today Rotary is a club devoted to four types of service: Club, Community, Vocational and International.
