Mardi Gras is one of the biggest money making events the Pleasanton Juniors stage each year. We have king and queen candidates who hold money making events (dances, fashion shows, family pizza night, etc.) The candidate who raises the most money wins. Last year we raised $12,800.00 for the senior citizens transportation system and $1000.00 for youth counseling programs. The final event is the Mardi Gras Ball, over 500 people attended to drink, eat, dance and celebrate the coronation. Pleasanton, California, from the series "Our Kind of People"

Canal Does Double Duty: A small boar is maneuvered along a canal in the Cai San area of South Viet Nam where thousands of acres of abandoned land have been reclaimed through the American aid program. This canal, while serving as a transportation route, also provides water for rice planting. The area is included in the resettlement program that has benefited some 12,000 refugee families from communist North Viet Nam, Cai San, South Viet Nam

Scores of pickets marched through the Loop in silent procession Friday in protest over the fatal beating of the Reverend James Reeb in Selma, Alabama. They were led by six men bearing a gray mock coffin, which was labeled with a sign: "God-- go South." Demonstrators carried other cardboard signs. By the time the demonstrators reached the Federal Building, the procession had grown to nearly 90 people, about half Negro and half white.
