DescriptionMarie Chino was one of the “Four Matriarchs” of Acoma pueblo who revived the ancient style of Acoma black-on-white pottery. Among her favorite design elements are the Anasazi step design, Mimbres animals, Tularosa spirals, Acoma parrots, rainbows, rain, clouds, lightning bolts, fine line snowflakes, and bushes with berries and leaves. This pot features the fine line snowflake design. The inspiration for many of the “Four Matriarchs” designs were those they saw on ancient potsherds gathered to use for temper. Together, they revived designs and forms belonging to the Mimbres, Tularosa, and Anasazi cultures.
