Description"This is a straight crayon drawing, with the texture of the stone remaining in the light areas, the darker grays resulting from strong rubbing" (Adolf Dehn and Lawrence Barrett, "How to Draw and Print Lithographs," 70) The image depicts Alfred H. Barr, Jr. organizer of MoMA's 1940 exhibition, "Picasso: Forty Years of His Art," being devoured by a surreal self-portrait of Picasso as he lectures to a group of benefactors. Barr's assistant turns away in horror, while the audience on the right watches the events unfold. (Reba Williams and Dave Williams, "The Influence of Picasso on American Printmakers," Print Quarterly, Sept. 1996, vol. 13, no. 3, 286)
