Description4 men left front standing in front of a courtroom. Man right front bowing towards them, holding a hat and sketch book (Th Nast signature on book). Copies of the Daily (Indianapolis) Journal, the Brooklyn Union, the Genteel Critic, the Toledo Blade, and Inflationist on ground in front of man. Inscription top right reads "Republican senators can repudiate their / platform, the national debt, or whatever they / wish but nobody may say a word against / them, as they are scared." Inscription top left reads "Republican / platform. / 'Our national currency / will be perfected by a / speedy resumption / of / specie payment'". Captioned "'Apollos, pardon my great Profaneness; oh, pardon me, that I descend so low!'" typeset beneath title in black ink.
