DescriptionThis print depicts a battle between Dutch and French troops that took place in 1677 in Tobago. The Dutch had launched a campaign to end privateering in the Caribbean, during which they clashed with a French squadron. The Dutch were badly defeated. Battle scenes, map and key. The English took the French colony of Tobago in March 1677; the French returned and retook it December 1677.
