DescriptionSammy's Bar, also known as Sammy's Bowery Follies, was a legendary nightclub located on the Bowery (Lower East Side) in New York City, particularly known for its vibrant and gritty atmosphere in the 1940s and 1950s. In 1943, Sammy's Bar was a prominent part of the Bowery's nightlife, a time when the area was known for its working-class population and its evolving character. Weegee's photographs of the bar offer a glimpse into the lively and sometimes chaotic scene that unfolded within its walls.
