Inscribed Verso, top left corner (adhesive label): "19, SILK AND PAPER WEAVE. / JAPANESE, XVIII Century. / Part of a temple hanging. / The metal "thread" found in Oriental weaves is usual- / ly made of paper cut in narrow strips to the surface / of which gold, silver-leaf or other metal has been ap- / plied. When this paper thread is of gold the fabric is / called "Kinran"; when of silver "Ginran."
