DescriptionSterocard with Egyptians, Egyptologists and Archaeologists standing near well. SCENE OF THE GREAT FIND OF MUMMIES, 1881. In July, 1881, Hon Emil Brugsch Bey, of the Boolak Museum Cairo, discovered the place where some Arabs have hidden a lot of royal mummies. Down a well 60 feet, then along a passage 235 feet, which widened at its end, led by the Arab holding the rope on his hand, Mr. Brugsch went, and there found kings, queens, princes, and priests, some 36 in all, in their mummy cases. Among them was the King Pharaoh who oppressed Israel. A palm-log is thrown across the well. Near it, in dark clothing, is the great discoverer, Mr. Brugsch, In light clothing, reclining, is Mons. Mospero, the famed Egyptologist. The mummies are in the Boolak Museum.
