DescriptionFrom the portfolio forward:
"Fine investigates our ideas of identity by layering opposing notions - mythology and science, natural and synthetic, inside and outside - to reveal contradictions. Working with such diverse materials as terra-cotta, wood, steel, labware and DNA films, the artist tests our ideas of authenticity. Fine teaches sculpture at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
Sally Fine's collage starts with a ground of nautical charts. Fluorescent xeroxes of the leaves from the tree outside of the Chapel Gallery and DNA films are then sewn and glued onto the charts. The assembled collage aligns the patterns of these selected micro and macro views."
