DescriptionPhotograph of a detail from the Feast in the House of Levi (1573). This work, painted for the Dominican order of SS. Giovanni e Paolo to replace an earlier work by Titian destroyed in the fire of 1571, is the last of the grandiose "suppers" painted by Veronese for the refectories of Venetian monasteries (Source: https://www.wga.hu/html_m/v/veronese/06/8levi.html, accessed 6/20/2023). This detail shot depicts a figure in the painting. With his eloquent gesture the elegantly dressed Venetian accompanied by a page links the figures in the left arch with Christ as the focus of the picture, in terms of both form and content. Without being a self-portrait, the portrait-like, characteristic head with a high forehead and distinctive nose does not lack a certain resemblance to the portraits we have of Veronese himself.
