DescriptionPhotograph depicting Giulio Romano's c.1540 fresco in the Galleria Palatina of the Palazzo Pitti, Firenze. The Greek god Apollo, with his bow and quiver of arrows, dances in a circle with the nine Muses, whose names are written in Greek characters on a scroll at bottom. Terpsichore, the Muse of the dance, appears to the left of Apollo, with her back to the viewer.
