"N. 2. / (Deposé) / Begun by Giustinian Partecipazio 828 this church was finished by his brother Giovanni. Nearly destroyed by a fire, (977) the Doge Pietro Orseolo rebuilt it, and under Doge Domenico Selvo 1071 it was fully completed by unknown architects. The style is byzantine and nearly like the old façade of S.ta Sophie at Constantinople. It represents a history of Venuitian triumphs. The lower part is composed by two orders of columns, forming five large niches with the portals. Above runs a gallery, spanned by five other arches, supported by a single row of pillars. The statues, cuspes, pinnacles and leaf decoration belong to the 14th and 15th century." on verso center in black type
