Trini SilveiraMexican-American, born c. 1980

Trini Silveira Sandoval is a second-generation potter who grew up in the village of Mata Ortiz in Chihuahua, Mexico. As a youth, she made pots in the classic Porvenir style that her neighborhood was known for and often worked on pots with her sister, Lila, until their marriages. Trini immigrated to the United States with her husband and now lives in San Diego, though she continues to make polychrome pots in a much more contemporary style. She often covers her beige pots in red slip before painting them. She often leaves the neck unpainted and incises the bare portion all around with a blade edge - an old Porvenir technique, thus combining old and new in one piece. She uses raw materials from Mata Ortiz but uses an electric kiln to fire her pottery in California.
