DescriptionThis portrait depicts the prominent American actor Edwin Forrest (1806-1872), who was most famous for his Shakespearean roles. The actor's photograph has been produced as an albumen print mounted as a cabinet card. This format was utilized by Napoleon Sarony for commercial purposes, as he was one of the first photographers to sell celebrity portraits for profit. Today, Sarony is most famous for his portraits of Oscar Wilde and Mark Twain.
