War Turns French Cadets' Fete into Grim Service: For many years the famous French military academy of St. Cyr, the West point of France, has held a gay and colorful yearly fete, known as "Le Triompne de St. Cyr". On this occasion the class of freshmen cadets is solemnly "baptized," receiving the name by which their class will be known. This year there was no rejoicing, no colorful pageant, but a grim parade in wartime uniforms. The cadet class received their name, "Amitie Franco-Britannique ("Franco-British Friendship"). / The cadets are reviewed by the British Military Attache (right), the commander of the academy (center), and the young sub-lieutenant (left), an old St. Cyrian, who performed the batpizing ceremony.

Jerusalem Alley, A Symbolic Warsaw Street: when Soviet and Polish troops met in Warsaw on January 17, 1945, it was in Jerusalem Alley that they met. At that time, Warsaw was 95% destroyed and this street, like the rest, was like a cemetery in the city of the dead. But today, 15 years later, the scene has changed considerably. There are still a few ruins to be seen, true, but for the most part, the street has been entirely rebuilt. Most of the older buildings are in the grimly-blunt Soviet-style of architecture; but in more recent structures, even this changed. And since the October 1956 revolution, a new wind of dignity and freedom has blown down the street. It is no longer an eastern city, nor is it entirely a western one. But one thing is certain, it is Polish. Pictured: a shoe store window draws a big crowd in goods hungry Warsaw.

RAAF Helicopter Ambulances in Vietnam Fighting: Among the many operational tasks performed by the versatile RAAF Iroquois helicopters of No. 9 Squadron in Vietnam, a new one-- aerial ambulance for wounded Viet Cong prisoners-- has been added. They were called on to fly two prisoners-- one a stretcher case who needed medical treatment in flight and the other blind-folded walking wounded case-- from the battle area to hospital at Vung Tau. Since their arrival in Vietnam with the Australian Task Force in June, the RAAF Iroquois have been used for carrying troops and wounded, dropping ammunition to hard pressed Australian troops, dropping leaflets and carrying out aerial reconnaissance patrols...
