The Eagle Squares is one of 100 clubs in the Northern California Square Dancing Association. We called our group Eagle Squares because we used to dance in the Eagles Hall. My wife and I started when some neighbors talked us into taking a beginning square dance class. We found dancing to be good clean fun, something we could do together with little expense involved. War Turns French Cadets' Fete into Grim Service: For many years the famous French military academy of St. Cyr, the West point of France, has held a gay and colorful yearly fete, known as "Le Triompne de St. Cyr". On this occasion the class of freshmen cadets is solemnly "baptized," receiving the name by which their class will be known. This year there was no rejoicing, no colorful pageant, but a grim parade in wartime uniforms. The cadet class received their name, "Amitie Franco-Britannique ("Franco-British Friendship"). / The cadets are reviewed by the British Military Attache (right), the commander of the academy (center), and the young sub-lieutenant (left), an old St. Cyrian, who performed the batpizing ceremony.

Mardi Gras is one of the biggest money making events the Pleasanton Juniors stage each year. We have king and queen candidates who hold money making events (dances, fashion shows, family pizza night, etc.) The candidate who raises the most money wins. Last year we raised $12,800.00 for the senior citizens transportation system and $1000.00 for youth counseling programs. The final event is the Mardi Gras Ball, over 500 people attended to drink, eat, dance and celebrate the coronation. Pleasanton, California, from the series "Our Kind of People"
